The Importance of an Information Website

Are you a down-under information junkie? Do facts turn you on? You are not alone. Millions of people around the globe, not just Australia and New Zealand, love to gather and discuss the latest news and information. You know you are an information junkie if:

  • You watch nothing but CNN
  • Your idea of a good time is reading the newspaper
  • You collect stamps and save the little information sheets that come with them
  • You don't date much

There is only one thing for an information junkie to do: blog! Yes, you must pass along the information you gather, and the more obscure, the better. People love reading about the odd tidbit or some juicy first-hand gossip, so blogging about the information you gather can be a real sweet deal. How do you get started? Here is some information:

  1. Hosting: Start with WordPress website hosting. Simply buy a domain from a friendly online broker. Then find a WordPress hosting site and set up shop there. You will want to apply a theme to WordPress – themes are usually available for free and come in a wide variety of styles. You will no doubt want to select a nerdy, geeky style to reflect your interests.
  2. Content: Write a daily blog highlighting one or more interesting facts that currently grab your attention. Don't be a sloppy writer: avoid errors of grammar, spelling, punctuation and usage. No one will want to read your blog if it is poorly written, so if you need help, hire a freelance professional writer to edit your material. You can find one through a quick Google search. Choose one that offers a satisfaction guarantee and perhaps some sort of free offer for first-time users. In addition to your blog, you can put in a forum to encourage discussion among your growing coterie of fans. Paste links to other cool websites throughout your site. You might even have something to sell – if so, add a shopping cart widget to your WordPress site and start raking in the dough.
  3. Backlinks: You need readers in order to make the effort worthwhile. Your content, as sparkling as it is, won't be enough to engender a large traffic flow. For that you need backlinks, which are hypertext links from another site to yours. The other site should be authoritative (have a high Page Rank) so that some of its Page Rank spills onto your site and thus improves your search engine performance. With enough backlinks you can end up on Page One of the search engine results for your chosen keyword(s). You can purchase backlinks from an online site that sells them. A package may run a few hundred dollars, but that's a pretty good deal and will lead to increased traffic.

So be well, do good work, and stay in touch.
