The University of Otago, New Zealand's oldest university, has over 17,000 students studying in the sciences, health sciences, humanities and business. It is set within the relatively small city of Dunedin within a block of the main street. Dunedin is noted for its architectural treasures, galleries, museums, ethnic restaurants and thriving cafe culture. It also has a reputation as the fashion centre of New Zealand with many interesting boutiques and young designers of international reputation.
The city offers breathtaking coastal views and walkways, all easily accessible within a few minutes of the city centre and is home to world famous wildlife reserves -- albatross, penguins and fur seals can be observed in their natural breeding grounds.
The University takes its name from the beautiful southern province of Otago. Within an hour's drive of the campus, you can explore some of New Zealand's most spectacular scenic and outdoor attractions. Dunedin is ideal for trips to any of the southern lakes and to high mountain valleys and rivers. One attraction is the internationally renowned resort of Queenstown which is just three or four hours by car from Dunedin. Nestled on the shores of Lake Wakatipu it is surrounded by magnificent snow-capped mountains and rich farmland. Queenstown is also the place for more adventurous delegates interested in alpine tramping, white-water rafting, jetboating, or bungy-jumping.
